Howard Lee Pierce, 70, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis with his loved ones at his bedside. He was born Nov. 4, 1951, to the late Rev. Howard Lee Pierce, 70, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis with his loved ones at his bedside.

He was born Nov. 4, 1951, to the late Rev. Frank and Irene Edwards Pierce. Howard and Denise Myers were united in marriage May 14, 1971. They celebrated their 50th anniversary this year.

Howard taught at Meridian Elementary, Junior High and High School at Mounds, Illinois. He retired after 35 years of teaching. He was a high school special education teacher, elementary teacher and, most recently, a computer education teacher. He served as head of many school improvement committees over the years. He also enjoyed serving as assistant track coach in his early career.

As a young man, Howard traveled and sang baritone with the gospel group, The Journeymen, and later with the trio, Cornerstone.

Howard enjoyed sports. He helped coach his son's Little League baseball team for many years and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Howard was a former Cape Girardeau Jaycees member. He was currently a faithful member of La Croix United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Denise Pierce of Cape Girardeau; son, Jay (Angela) Pierce of Jackson; sister, Pat (Kevin) Uchitjil of Odin, Illinois; grandsons, Emmett and Oliver Pierce of Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ron Watts officiating. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.
