E. Howard Nelson, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at the Lutheran Home. He was born Nov. 1, 1925, in Dallas to Allen and Gladys Loyd Nelson. He and Patricia Ann Dieckmann were married Jan. 11, 1952, in Cape Girardeau. Nelson served in the Army during World War II. E. Howard Nelson, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born Nov. 1, 1925, in Dallas to Allen and Gladys Loyd Nelson. He and Patricia Ann Dieckmann were married Jan. 11, 1952, in Cape Girardeau.

Nelson served in the Army during World War II. He received a Victory Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars and two Overseas Bars.

He worked at Schiff's Shoes in downtown Cape Girardeau, International Shoe eight years and was a custodian 20 years with Cape Girardeau public schools. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Ricky Sue Koenig (Larry) and Carol Lynn Birk (Dan), both of Cape Girardeau, Robin Holaves (Nick) of Lakeland, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a brother, Lloyd Alan Nelson; and a sister, Marilyn Nelson.

Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mike Shupert officiating.

Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorials may be given to the family.
