Homer King McKinley, 84, of Scott City died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Dec. 1, 1918, in Cookeville, Tenn., son of Homer Lee and Daisy Jared McKinley. He and Betty Jo Gentry were married June 23, 1946, in Sikeston, Mo.
McKinley was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Illmo Baptist Church and VFW Post 6407.
He served with the 32nd Infantry Division in the U.S. Army during World War II, including 36 months overseas in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines. He received a Distinguished Unit Badge, Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ronald McKinley of Jackson, Dennis McKinley of Scott City; a daughter, Judy Rolwing of Charleston, Mo.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Bell officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery at Charleston, with full military rites by Missouri Honors Team.
