Hollis Smith, 87, of Nevada, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 1996, at Nevada Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 28, 1909, at Swinton, daughter of Jessie and Vader Prentiss Swindell. She and the Rev. Orren Smith were married Aug. 4, 1928. He died in 1968.
Smith was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. She taught 25 years at schools in Olive Branch, Ill., Delta, and near Peoria, Ill.
She was a member of Red Star Baptist Church and taught Sunday School many years, was a member of Rodney Vista Homemakers Club, and had volunteered 6,000 hours at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
Survivors include a son, James Smith of El Dorado Springs; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son and three sisters.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel from 4-7 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Rev. Don Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park.
