Hershel "Doc" Stover, 78, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, at his home.
He was born Sept. 3, 1927, in Italla, Ala., son of the late Lonnie and Odella Freeman Stover. At the age of 7 he moved to LaForge, Mo., where he met Freda J. Glidewell. They were married Jan. 10, 1949, in Tunica, Miss.
An accomplished welder and pipefitter, Doc worked 37 years with St. Louis Local 562, for companies including Fruin-Colnon, B.W. Birk, and Corregan, retiring in 1989. The past 16 years he enjoyed working on his farm and helping his neighbors.
Loving survivors include his wife of 56 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Karen Stover, Rob and Carol Stover, all of Jackson; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharyn L. and Terry Strack of Jackson; a brother, Herbert Stover of Shafter, Calif.; and a sister, Herma Hight of Shafter.
Also surviving are six grandchildren, Ryan Strack and wife Tabetha, Andy Stover, Tammy Stover, Sarah Goodwin and husband Mike, Shelly Stover, Shannon Stover; and special young friends, Chance and Logan Kiehne, Jill, Jason and Josh Walther, Aaron and Laura Puchbauer, Caleb and Kristen Johnston.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jerry Lynn Stover, and a sister, Helen Hester.
Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Dr. Brian Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Crossroads Fellowship Church Building Fund or the Salvation Army.
