ELCO, Ill. -- Herman Duncan Sheffer, 79, of Paducah, Ky., died Monday, June 21, 1999, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah. He was born in Elco, son of Eddie E. and Bessie Provo Sheffer. ELCO, Ill. -- Herman Duncan Sheffer, 79, of Paducah, Ky., died Monday, June 21, 1999, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.
He was born in Elco, son of Eddie E. and Bessie Provo Sheffer. He married Carolyn Arnhart.
Sheffer was retired from Alexander County General Assistance Office. He was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Dixie Miller of Anna, Marilyn Neislein of Rockwood; four sons, Rodger and Michael Sheffer of Anna, Steven Sheffer of Rockwood, Deeb Ghannoum of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; a brother, Harold Sheffer of West Paducah, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Friends may call at Milner and Orr Funeral Home in Paducah after 5 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Herschel Spears officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Garden at Villa Ridge.
