BENTON -- Herman Louis Schwartz Sr., 78, of Benton passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at Southeast Missouri Hospital at Cape Girar, owned and operated Schwartz Motor Sales and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church and the Benton Chamber of Commerce where he had served as president and treasurer. He was active in the Benton Neighbor Day celebrations and was instrumental in the return of this annual event...

BENTON -- Herman Louis Schwartz Sr., 78, of Benton passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at Southeast Missouri Hospital at Cape Girar, owned and operated Schwartz Motor Sales and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church and the Benton Chamber of Commerce where he had served as president and treasurer. He was active in the Benton Neighbor Day celebrations and was instrumental in the return of this annual event.

He is survived by three daughters, Dorothy "Dottie" (Burnett) Plumb and Darlene (E.J.) Urhahn, both of Cape Girardeau, and Belinda (Thomas) Grisham of St. Pete Beach, Fla; two sons, Herman L. Jr. (Phyllis A.) Schwartz of Benton and Terrance C. (Phyllis G.) Schwartz of Jackson; seven grandchildren, Sheila (Howard) Glosson of Nashville, Tenn., Laura (Robert) Walz and Nathan Ford, both of Cape Girardeau, Christina (Chris) Kolze, Tasha Schwartz and Summer Sprouse, all of Jackson and Dustin and Dylan Schwartz, both of Benton; six great-grandchildren, Ginna, Eva and Casey Glosson of Nashville, Jace Walz of Cape Girardeau and Evan and Shelby Kolze, both of Jackson. He is also survived by one sister, Agnes M. Hixson of Toledo, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Michelle Y. Ford; two sisters, Mary A. Bain and Clare E. Fish; and two brothers, George A. Schwartz and Francis M. Schwartz.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel at Benton. A parish prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Denis Catholic Church at Benton, with the Rev. Normand Varone officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
