KELSO -- Herman Joseph Jansen, 73, of Kelso died Thursday, March 27, 1997, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 4, 1923, at Oran, son of Bernard and Christine Brockmeyer Jansen. He and Rita Marie Klipfel were married July 9, 1946, at Benton.

Jansen had been a carpenter with Drury Construction, farmed in the Kelso area, and had worked at Marquette Cement Co. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, and Knights of Columbus Council 6420 in Scott City. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Raymond Jansen of Jefferson City, Harold Jansen of Bucyrus, Kan., B.J. Jansen of Kelso; five daughters, Marcella Mack of Benton, Doris Dingerson of St. Peters, Linda Johnston and Mary McMillan of Scott City, Janice Jansen of Overland; four brothers, Leon Jansen of Cape Girardeau, Paul Jansen of Springfield, Martin and George Jansen of Kelso; three sisters, Lucille Klipfel and Corena Berkbigler of Cape Girardeau, Irene Klueppel of Benton; 21 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a grandchild.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City after 3 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 6, and KC service at 6:15.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Church, with the Rev. Oliver Clavin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
