SIKESTON -- Herman Hollas Hughes, 76, of Sikeston died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, at his home.
He was born Nov. 4, 1921, in Russellville, Ala., son of John R. and Della Mae Sisson Hughes. He and Mayme Jane McDonald were married July 20, 1940, in Double Springs, Ala. She died Dec. 2, 1988. He later married Ruby Mae Dufur Dec. 12, 1994, in Sikeston.
Hughes was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Christ Gospel Church, and served on the Sikeston Nutrition Center Board.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Joey and Larry McRoy of Sikeston; two stepdaughters, Barbara Clements and Janet Hampton of Sikeston; three brothers, Herbert Hughes of Haleyville, Ala., Garland Hughes of Port Richey, Fla., Fred Hughes of Kenton, Okla.; two sisters, Lorene Whitehead of Stanfield, Ariz., Betty Gray of Orange City, Fla.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, three brothers and a sister.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Wayne Stiles officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
