Herman Arnzen, 74, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Aug. 21, 1937, in Marble Hill, Mo., to Ernest and Elizabeth Elfrink Arnzen. He was a 1955 graduate of Leopold High School.
Herman and Betty Beussink were married May 3, 1958, at St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold, Mo. They became members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson in 1958.
He was a charter member and 3rd Degree Knight of Bishop Timon Council 6405 in Jackson. He was a lifelong carpenter, first employed by Elfrink Construction. He then established Herman Arnzen Construction and was self-employed more than 35 years in residential construction. He worked 10 years in commercial construction for MacCon Construction in Gordonville and the past six years at B&B Doors in Jackson.
Herman loved life and enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, cooking, Cardinals baseball and going to the family farm in Marble Hill. But his greatest pleasure was spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.
Loving survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty; two daughters, Terri (Mark) Nagel, Kara Arnzen and husband Michael Schnurbusch; five grandchildren, Kelli and Brett Nagel, Leah, Benjamin and Joshua Schnurbusch, all of Jackson; two brothers, Edwin (Joann) Arnzen, Roger (Bonnie) Arnzen, all of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Mary Carol (Melvin) Dohogne of Fenton, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. Deacon Walt Biri will lead parish prayers at 7, followed immediately by the rosary led by Knights of Columbus.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church, with the Rev. John Harth officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
