Herbert "Herbie" Welter Jr., 64, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, April 7, 2014.

He was born June 18, 1949, in Cape Girardeau, to Herbert L. and Julia K. Johnson Welter. He and Monica "Janet" Dillingham were married Nov. 14, 1970, at Egypt Mills.

Herbie served his country in the U.S. Army.

He was a mechanic many years at West Park Lanes in Cape Girardeau.

He was a very loving and special husband, father, grandfather and brother. He loved spending time with his family and touched the hearts of all who knew him. Herbie shared many fishing and hunting trips with his sons; brother-in-law, Doug; and many special friends. He enjoyed every aspect of nature.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gregory Evan Welter and Christopher A. Welter of Cape Girardeau; a granddaughter, Makenzie D. Welter; two sisters, Betty (Doug) Voelker of Cape Girardeau and Anita (Barry) Allen of Arnold, Mo.; and many other special relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A private graveside service will be Friday at Fairmount Cemetery, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be given to Muscular Dystrophy Association.
