BERTRAND -- Herbert Lee Sliger, 87, of Pana, Ill., died Monday, June 30, 1997, at Washington Nursing Center in Washington, Ind.
He was born Nov. 11, 1909, at Bertrand, son of James Lewis and Mary Alice Jackson Sliger. He and Marie Farris were married Sept. 17, 1931, in Charleston. She died Jan. 24, 1996.
Sliger was a 50-year member of Carpenters Local 1770 in Cape Girardeau. He was a member and deacon 50 years of General Baptist Church in Pana, and member of Masonic Lodge 226 in Pana.
Survivors include three sons, Farris Sliger of Pana, Fredrick Sliger of Oak Grove, Johnie Sliger of Washington; a daughter, Rosemary Ford of Dexter; a brother, Frank Sliger of Lincoln, Neb.; two sisters, Linda Parker of East Prairie, Ruth Hinkle of Robinson, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Robert Jones and Kenneth Biggs officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston.
