Herbert H. Mirly, 92, of Charlotte, N.C., faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, is now before the throne of God. He went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 17, 2011. Mirly was born in Oak Ridge on Dec. 21, 1918, one of 12 children. After sensing a call to the pastoral ministry, he attended St. Paul's College at Concordia, Mo., where he met Dolores Wilkens. Herbert H. Mirly, 92, of Charlotte, N.C., faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, is now before the throne of God. He went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 17, 2011.

Mirly was born in Oak Ridge on Dec. 21, 1918, one of 12 children.

After sensing a call to the pastoral ministry, he attended St. Paul's College at Concordia, Mo., where he met Dolores Wilkens. From there he went to Concordia Seminary in St. Louis to complete his theological training, and graduated in 1945.

After serving congregations in Illinois and Pennsylvania, he accepted the call to Resurrection Lutheran Church in Charlotte, where he served as senior pastor more than 16 years. He and his wife, Dolores, continued their ministry through an apostolic call with New Life Ministry. Mirly was recognized nationally as a leader in the Lutheran and Liturgical/Charismatic Worship Renewal.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Dolores; two daughters, Martha Budding (David), and Rebecca Barnwell (Marcus); five grandchildren, Jeffrey Berndt (Kristin), Nathan Berndt (Malka), Jessica Costen (Jade), Elisha Boggs (George) and Micah Swett (Maria); and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Resurrection Lutheran Church.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Interment will be private.
