VILLA RIDGE, Ill. -- Herbert N. Henckell, 79, of Villa Ridge died Thursday, Oct. 31, 1996, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. VILLA RIDGE, Ill. -- Herbert N. Henckell, 79, of Villa Ridge died Thursday, Oct. 31, 1996, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 17, 1917, in Cairo, Ill., son of Herbert N. and Josephine Winters Henckell.

Henckell was a graduate of the University of Missouri and St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

He was a registered pharmacist. He owned and operated Henckell's Drug Store in Cairo and later was a pharmacist at Choate Mental Health Center in Anna. He also served as Alexander County coroner many years.

Henckell was a member of Cairo Elks Lodge 651, Civil Air Patrol, Pearl Harbor Survivors, served on the Cairo Regional Airport Board of Directors, and attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cairo.

Survivors include three daughters, Jo Winkler of Villa Ridge, Vickie Sauerbrunn of Olmsted, Jan Henckell of Dallas, Texas; two sons, Mike Henckell of Jackson, Mo., Ted Henckell of Weatherford, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
