SCOTT CITY -- Herbert Daniel Burger, 82, of Scott City, died Wednesday, June 24, 1992, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Jan. 24, 1910, at Commerce, son of Alexander and Clara Georger Burger. He and Marie Elizabeth Held were married June 1, 1940, in Cape Girardeau.
Burger had farmed and also owned Burger Construction more than 20 years.
He received a civilian's pilot license in 1931 at St. James Air College in St. James. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Burger flew 108 missions, with 36 of those round trips over the Himalayas. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal, and the Campaign Medal from the Chinese leader.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Kenneth Burger of Scott City; a daughter, Brenda LeGrand of Benton; three brothers, Harold Burger of Scott City, Leo Burger of Cape Girardeau, Alex Burger Jr. of New Hamburg; four sisters, Rose Hillman and Alma Burger of Scott City, Linda Ziegler of Benton, Ann Thompson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; five grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City after 4 p.m. today. The rosary will be at 7:30.
Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso. Msgr. John Westhues will officiate, with burial in the church cemetery.
