Herbert Hugo Balsmann, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 20, 1928, in Uniontown, Mo., to Edward and Josephine Schott Balsmann. He and Rosa Lee Teaford were married July 2, 1955, in Cape Girardeau.

He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was a truck driver with L.A. Tucker, Inman Freight and Genesis Transportation. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1111 and American Legion Post 63.

Survivors include his wife, Rosa Lee Balsmann of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Keith Balsmann of Jackson, Brian Balsmann of Carterville, Ill.; a daughter, Robin Balsmann (Tab) Wachter of Jackson; two brothers, Edward Balsmann of Old Appleton, Mo., Elmer Balsmann of Perryville, Mo.; two sisters, Flora Robert of Cape Girardeau, Wilma Myers of Friedheim, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Dane and Lacey Balsmann of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, William Balsmann.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel. Parish prayers will be at 7, followed by Knights of Columbus Rosary.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. Kizito Wenani officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, with full military rites by Missouri Honor Team.

Memorial contributions may be given to charity of choice.
