Henry Winfred Slinkard, 90, of Jackson passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born March 19, 1922, son of Henry Edward and Mary Elizabeth Yount Slinkard. Henry served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 7, 1942, to Dec. 23, 1945. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for the Southern Philippines and Ryukyu Island campaigns and a Good Conduct Medal...

Henry Winfred Slinkard, 90, of Jackson passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 19, 1922, son of Henry Edward and Mary Elizabeth Yount Slinkard.

Henry served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 7, 1942, to Dec. 23, 1945. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for the Southern Philippines and Ryukyu Island campaigns and a Good Conduct Medal.

He retired from Kroger Grocery stores as a warehouseman. He was a member of Millersville Baptist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Ernest Slinkard, and a sister, Fern Runnels, both of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill, Mo.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Daniel Hale officiating. Burial will be in Old Trace Creek Cemetery near Glenallen, Mo., with full military honors provided by the Missouri Honors Team.
