OLIVE BRANCH, Ill. -- Henry H. Ashworth, 77, of Cordova, Tenn., formerly of Olive Branch, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at his home.
He was born Sept. 12, 1929, in Wickliffe, Ky., son of Mark Hanna and Ruth Myrtle Haws Ashworth. He and Lela Turner were married Jan. 9, 1966.
Ashworth was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He became a deckhand on the river and later became a pilot and riverboat captain. He retired from Ingram Barge of Nashville, Tenn.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Henry Ashworth Jr. of Wickliffe; two brothers, Billy Ashworth of Cairo, Ill., Ronald Ashworth of East Cape Girardeau, Ill.; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, Ill.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Dr. Herbert Haws officiating. Burial will be in Mound City National Cemetery, with military graveside honors by members of VFW and American Legion posts of Pulaski and Alexander counties.
