JACKSON, Mo. -- Funeral for Helmuth Martin Doberenz of Jackson will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church. The Rev. David Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. Friday, and at the church after 9 a.m. Saturday.
Doberenz, 87, died Monday, May 21, 2001, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Feb. 24, 1914, at Shawneetown, Mo., son of Martin A. and Martha Kasten Doberenz. He and Rosa B. Meyr were married Oct. 15, 1939, at New Wells, Mo. She died Jan. 1, 2001.
Doberenz worked at the former International Shoe Co., Ideal Grocery and Schaper's IGA, all in Jackson. He retired in 1976.
He moved to Jackson in 1949. He was a member of St. Paul Church, served as an elder, and sang in the adult choir. He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown.
Survivors include three daughters, Irma Meyer of Wykoff, Minn., Ruth Lacy of Belton, Mo., Wanda Steffens of Cape Girardeau; three sons, Paul Doberenz of Livermore, Calif., Marvin Doberenz of Weatherford, Texas, Kenneth Doberenz of Perryville, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
