Helen Sinn

Helen Irene Steeg Sinn, 87, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born July 22, 1915, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of August Robert and Irene Mary Lindsay Steeg. Her grandparents, John and Cora Hobbs Lindsay, raised Helen after the deaths of her parents.

Helen Irene Steeg and Robert Carl Sinn were married Nov. 4, 1933, at Trinity Lutheran Parsonage in Cape Girardeau. Robert preceded her in death March 15, 1978.

Survivors include four sons, Carl Lee (Phyllis), Jimmy (Ella), and Junior (Jane) Sinn, all of Egypt Mills, Mo., Harold (Serene) Sinn of Defiance, Mo.; and a daughter, Schirley Jo (Dude) Huey of Egypt Mills.

Grandma Sinn, as we all knew her, is also survived by 17 grandchildren, Penny Parrott, Sheila Gross, Randy Sinn, Wayne Sinn, Jenny Hawkins, Pam Cagle, Kim Kelley, Scott Sinn, Shannon Sinn, Elizabeth Brown, Sarah Aufdenberg, Travis Sinn, Shane Sinn, Danielle Sinn, Brittany Sinn, Chris Sinn and Corey Sinn. Survivors also include 34 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lou King; two grandsons, Tom Sinn and Robert King; a sister, Hazel Fornkohl Loch; and a brother, Lee Steeg.

Besides raising six children and tending to and loving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Helen worked 11 years at Florsheim Shoe Co. and then worked cleaning houses, even up into her 80s.

Helen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, where she sang in the choir. When her boys were younger, she was involved in their Cub Scout troops. Later in life Helen enjoyed being involved in Parents Without Partners.

Along with a love for cooking and working in her flowers, she also enjoyed traveling with church groups. She loved to talk of her trips to the Holy Land, Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Douglas C. Breite officiating. Burial will be in Hobbs Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Randy, Wayne, Scott, Shannon, Travis, Shane, Chris and Corey Sinn.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, the Lutheran Home, or Hobbs Chapel Church.
