PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Helen L. Ponder, 84, of Perryville died Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born May 20, 1928, at Randolph County, Ill., to Edward J. Kline Sr. and Blanche E. Rayoum. She married William H. Ponder on Oct. 14, 1947, at Apple Creek, and he preceded her in death.

She was a member of St. Joseph Parish-Apple Creek, and the VFW Auxiliary. Helen was a homemaker. Helen was an in-home caregiver for many people throughout Perry County. She was an avid bowler and loved fishing and quilting.

She is survived by four sons, Paul (Barb) Ponder, Edward (Tina) Ponder, Leroy (Cindy) Ponder, all of Perryville, and Richard (Elaine) Ponder of Sharpsville, Ind.; four daughters, Shirley (Jerry) Burroughs of Frohna, Margie (Bruce) Kasten of Uniontown, Mo., Charlotte (Craig) Arneson of Oak Ridge and Connie (Kevin) Kaempfe of Perryville; two brothers, Edward (Alice) Kline of Festus, Mo., and Wilbert (Dorothy) Kline of Perryville; one sister, Anna Mae Kline of Uniontown; 20 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, John and Ray; and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Miller Family Funeral Home in Perryville. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The rosary will be recited at 9 a.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church-Apple Creek. The Revs. Tony Dattilo and Rickey Valleroy will concelebrate. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to St. Joseph's Parish, the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Association.
