Helen A. Polack, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, April 29, 2019, at Lutheran Home. She was born July 2, 1929, in Cape Girardeau to Edward August and Anita Brune Polack. Helen received a master's degree in education from Vanderbilt University. She taught first grade at May Greene School and fifth grade at Franklin Elementary School for a combined total of 39 years...

Helen A. Polack, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, April 29, 2019, at Lutheran Home.

She was born July 2, 1929, in Cape Girardeau to Edward August and Anita Brune Polack.

Helen received a master's degree in education from Vanderbilt University.

She taught first grade at May Greene School and fifth grade at Franklin Elementary School for a combined total of 39 years.

Helen loved her dogs and collecting figurines.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a devout Lutheran.

Survivors include her three nephews, William (Carol) Harshaw of St. Louis, Robert (Joy) Polack Jr. of Cape Girardeau and John Edward Polack of Cape Girardeau; great-nephew, John August Polack of Chicago; two great-nieces, Elizabeth (David) Yung of Concord, California, and Heather Harshaw of St. Louis; and great-great-niece, Sabine Yung of Concord.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Edward A. Polack and Robert Jean Polack Sr.; and two sisters, Marie Harshaw and Ruth M. McCain.

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Loren Boettcher officiating.

Memorial contributions may be given to Saxony Lutheran High School.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
