SIKESTON -- Graveside service for Helen Matthews of Sikeston will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Jim Matthews officiating.

Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home after 12:30 p.m.

Matthews, 81, died Tuesday, April 4, 1995, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 24, 1914, at Steele, daughter of William Simon and Allie Curtis Copeland. She and Fred E. Matthews Sr. were married Feb. 19, 1938, in Sikeston. He died June 29, 1993.

Matthews was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Fred Matthews Jr. of Carlsbad, Calif.; a daughter, Mary Schnittger of Allentown, Pa.; a brother, Earl Copeland of Sikeston; two sisters, Mary Shielly of Steele, Margaret Reid of Ashtabula, Ohio, and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, two brothers and a granddaughter.
