SIKESTON -- Helen M. Johnson, 89, of Memphis, Tenn., died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, at Eastwood Hospital in Memphis.
She was born Feb. 13, 1907, in Ellington, daughter of Richard Henley and Effie Elizabeth Brawley Montgomery. She and Edgar J. Johnson were married July 5, 1930, in Wickliffe, Ky.
The Johnsons owned 11 shoe stores in Atlanta, Ga., and Tampa, Fla. They retired in 1963 and moved to Sikeston, then moved to Memphis in 1984.
Johnson attended First Ascension Church in Memphis, and was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include her husband; and a brother, Joel Montgomery of Sikeston.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, with the Rev. Ken Jarvis officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
