Helen Friedel

FLORISSANT, Mo. -- Helen B. Friedel, 69, of Florissant, Mo., and formerly of Kampsville, Ill, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008.

She was born May 16, 1938, in Kampsville, Ill., daughter of the late Carl and Martha Brangenberg. She was the beloved wife of the late John L. Friedel.

Mrs. Friedel was baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection. Mrs. Friedel was Catholic educator, administrator and counselor at many schools in the North St. Louis County area and capped her career at C.B.C. High School and as a volunteer at DeLasalle Middle School at St. Matthew's. Other schools she was affiliated with are Our Lady of Fatima, North American Martyrs, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Sacred Heart, St. Angela Merici, Bishop DuBourg High School, St. Dominic High School and Gibault High School in Waterloo, Ill.

She received the following awards: Kitty Cole Human Rights Award from the Missouri Counseling Association, Distinguished LaSallian Educator Award by the Brothers of Christian Schools and the Presidential Award by the Missouri Counseling Association.

Mrs. Friedel was the loving mother of Dr. Vincent (Brenda) Friedel of Perryville, Mo., and Rev. J. Friedel of Joplin, Mo. She is survived by many other relatives and friends.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at CBC High School Chapel. Visitation will continue from 11 a.m. until a 12 p.m. Mass Friday at Most Sacred Heart Church, 751 Jefferson St., Florissant, Mo. 63031. There will be a visitation from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Brussels, Ill., with interment following at the St. Mary's Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Helen B. Friedel Scholarship Fund for DeLasalle Middle School, c/o Paul Krause at C.B.C., or Calhoun County, Ill., Catholic Schools, or the Joplin, Mo., area Catholic schools.
