Helen Bird

MATTHEWS -- Helen Bird, 76, of Matthews died Friday, July 25, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Feb. 13, 1921, at Matthews, daughter of Elon and Alberta Moore Proffer. She married Lyle C. Bird, who died Jan. 30, 1978.

Bird was a member of First Christian Church and charter member of Matthews Community Club.

Survivors include two sons, Lyle Bird of Mountain View, Calif., and David Bird of Bridgeton; and a daughter, Linda Bird of Nashville, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston from 5-8 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Larry Long officiating. Burial will be in Matthews Cemetery.
