HELEN BENSON

Helen Marie Benson, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born Aug. 2, 1912, in Jackson, daughter of Alphonson and Carrie Brown Lacey. She and Clyde Lee Benson were married Nov. 8, 1943. He died June 6, 1972.

Benson was a member of St. James AME Church and former church clerk and youth director. She was also a member of Successful Homemakers Club and Golden Age Club.

Survivors include a son, Clyde Benson Jr., and a sister, Genevia Hayes, both of Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. James Church, with the Rev. David Allen Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church from noon until service time.

Sparks Funeral Home in Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
