Hazel Tolar

PULASKI, Ill. — Hazel Marie Tolar, 92, of Pulaski passed away at 8:46 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Hazel was born April 9, 1923, in Bardwell, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Elbert DeWeese and Willie V. Clark DeWeese.

Hazel was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Pulaski and was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service, serving 18 years as postmistress in Pulaski.

Survivors include three daughters, Patricia (Joe) Upshaw of Robins, Georgia, Theresa (Clyde) Ruble of Bolingbrook, Illinois, and Peggy Grant of Anna, Illinois; two sons, Thomas Tolar and Kenneth Tolar, both of Pulaski; a sister, Angie McGuire of Nashville, Tennessee; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry Tolar Jr., on Sept. 3, 2004; two brothers; and four sisters.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. and noon today at Jones Funeral Home Villa Ridge, Illinois, and from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. today at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Pulaski.

The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the church, with pastor Brian Lingle officiating. Interment will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in memory of Hazel Tolar.
