TAMMS, Ill. -- Hazel Leona Harvell Newell, 94, of Tamms died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Aug. 27, 1914, in Alexander County, Ill., daughter of George and Osee Crocker Harvell.
Hazel and her husband owned and operated Newell's Hardware and Dry Good Store in Ullin, and later owned and operated a trailer park in Bradenton, Fla. She was a member of Free Pentecostal Church and Royal Neighbors of America.
Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn Kee of Tamms, Thelma Lucille Welborn of Zephyrhills, Fla.; a sister, Freda Miller of Chaffee, Mo.; a brother, Charles Harvell of Tamms; five grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-stepgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim McLane officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery near Dongola, Ill.
