Hazel Johns Freeze, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at the home of her daughter in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Sept. 22, 1921, in Cairo, Ill., daughter of Clyde Wayne and Amy Lee Johns Lessley. She married Tom Freeze of Diehlstadt, Mo. He preceded her in death.

Hazel lived in Cairo many years, where she owned and operated Standard Cleaners. She moved to Cape Girardeau in 1983. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Cairo.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Claire Watson of Cape Girardeau; a daughter and son-in-law, Daryl and Mike Kepner of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Barbara Horton of Cape Girardeau; and a niece, Barbara Lee Lanier of Indianapolis, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a half sister, Rose Edith Olson; and a sister, Charlotte Ferguson.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, with the Rev. Ron Watts officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Villa Ridge, Ill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri.
