Hazel Eaves

Hazel M. Eaves, 91, of Cape Girardeau and more recently of Bloomington, Ill., passed away Thursday, July 10, 2008, after a brief illness.

Hazel had requested upon death to be taken to Washington School of Medicine in St. Louis. This would be her final gift to the world.

She was born March 26, 1917, in Pawnee, Ill., to Herbert A. and Ollie Bell Burris Davis. Hazel married Bill Eaves May 11, 1946. He preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1982.

They spent years traveling worldwide and operating a business in Cape Girardeau. Hazel began volunteer work at Southeast Missouri Hospital in 1958. After Bill's death, her auxiliary work became her "lifeline." She received many awards over the years including Auxilian of the Year from Missouri Hospital Association in 1995. Hazel had donated more than 14,000 hours in various departments, mainly the gift shop. A truly outstanding accomplishment.

Hazel was a longtime member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a niece and many nephews.

Hazel was preceded in death by five brothers, Rollo, Elmer, Everett, Ralph and Roy Davis; two sisters, Marie Coontz and Irene Raft; and her beloved pugs and cat Charlie.

Memorials may be made to the church, Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary, or donor's choice.
