SIKESTON -- Funeral service for Hazel Applewhite of Sikeston will be held at 2 p.m. today at St. John Baptist Church. Leon Applewhite will officiate, with burial in Sunset of Memories Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church from 1 p.m. to service time.

Applewhite, 80, died Wednesday, April 17, 1996, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 3, 1915, in DeValls Bluff, Ark., daughter of Cornealious and Victoria McCauley. She and Albert Applewhite were married Jan. 29, 1942.

Applewhite was a member of St. John Church.

Survivors include her husband; seven sons, Boyd and Leon Applewhite of Chicago, James, Joseph, Albert, Ezel and Johnie Applewhite of Sikeston; four daughters, Willie Stidman of Chicago, Mary Henry of Bowling Green, Ky., Irene and Ida Applewhite of Sikeston; three sisters, Helen Barns, Violet Jackson and Bernice Tucker of Chicago; 33 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
