Hassel Onderdonk, 64, of Millersville died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

She was born Dec. 23, 1942, in St. Louis, daughter of James and Rosalie Cotner Ackman. She and Bob Onderdonk were married Aug. 7, 1982, in Jackson.

Hassel was a 1960 graduate of Jackson High School. She was a secretary for a drug company in St. Louis from 1960 to 1965. She returned to the area and worked at Thomason Law Firm in Cape Girardeau and attended Brown Business College in St. Louis.

She became a freelance court reporter, and in 1986 began working as a court reporter for the state of Missouri Workers Compensation, retiring in 2001.

Hassel was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church near Fruitland.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Marvin Ates Jr. and Tim Ates of St. Louis; a daughter, Bonnie Ates of Savannah, Ga.; two stepdaughters, Stephanie Onderdonk of Sacramento, Calif., Amy Pockrus of Austin, Ark.; her mother, Rosalie Ackman of Fruitland; two sisters, Rita Reisenbichler of Pocahontas, Ruth Smith of Dallas; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 p.m. to service time at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
