Harvey Lee Meyer, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at Lutheran Home. Harvey was born April 14, 1939, in St. Louis to Ralph H. "Bud" and Norma Lee Simpson. Norma later married Edwin Theodore "Ted" Meyer. Ted formally adopted Harvey on Aug. 17, 1959. He married Ruth Ann Bingenheimer on July 2, 1960. They shared 58 wonderful years together...

Harvey Lee Meyer, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at Lutheran Home.

Harvey was born April 14, 1939, in St. Louis to Ralph H. "Bud" and Norma Lee Simpson. Norma later married Edwin Theodore "Ted" Meyer. Ted formally adopted Harvey on Aug. 17, 1959. He married Ruth Ann Bingenheimer on July 2, 1960. They shared 58 wonderful years together.

He served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves for five years. During that time, Harvey worked as a helicopter mechanic and saw action in the Korean War. After his military service, he worked many jobs, including as a Cape Girardeau police officer, a counselor at Farmington (Missouri) Hospital, job coach for Easter Seals assisting handicapped and disabled, as well as bursar at Southeast Missouri State University for 13 years. He loved cats and had a large book collection and enjoyed reading.

Harvey was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Meyer; daughter, Kathryn Ann Rellergert; grandsons, Stephen Andrew Rellergert and Joshua Micheal Marshall; brother, Edwin T. "Ted" (Maxine) Meyer; sisters, Linda Ruth (Joe) Metheny Belote and Carlotta Elise "Kim" Meyer Minner; nieces, nephews, other relatives; and his best friend, Frank Nickell.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Family and friends may gather from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Nov. 13 at Crain Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Cape Girardeau.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Nov. 13 at the funeral home, with his friend, Frank Nickell, officiating. Inurnment with military honors will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
