CHESTER, Ill. -- Harvey Hugo Decker, 81, of Chester died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at St. Ann's Healthcare Center in Chester. He was born Jan. 6, 1919, in Chester, son of Adolph C. and Maria Kipp Decker. He and Margaret Maxine Parvin were married Aug. 10, 1940, at Longtown, Mo...

CHESTER, Ill. -- Harvey Hugo Decker, 81, of Chester died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at St. Ann's Healthcare Center in Chester.

He was born Jan. 6, 1919, in Chester, son of Adolph C. and Maria Kipp Decker. He and Margaret Maxine Parvin were married Aug. 10, 1940, at Longtown, Mo.

Decker had been kitchen supervisor at Menard Correctional Center. He was a member of VFW Post 3553 in Chester, and an AFSCME retiree.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, David (Ann) Decker of Richmond, Va., Mike (Marlene) Decker of Walkertown, N.C., Tom (Terri) Decker of Salt Lake City, Utah; two daughters, Margaret (Sam) Beggs of Jackson, Mo., Becky (Keith) Tiberend of Marissa, Ill.; four brothers, Vernon Decker of Chester, Adolph Decker of Carlisle, Pa., Edward Decker of Evansville, Ill., Earl Decker of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Velma Potter of Brenham, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Matthew David Decker; four brothers, Alfred, Bill, George and Kenny Decker; and a sister, Mildred Siemers.

Friends may call at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester from 5-8 p.m. Friday, 7:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday, and at St. John Lutheran Church after 10 a.m. Saturday.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John Church, with the Rev. Mark Willig officiating. A military graveside service will be held at St. John Lutheran Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to St. John Radio Fund or St. John Cemetery Flag Pole Fund.
