SIKESTON -- Funeral for Harry Powers of Sikeston will be held at 2 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. Dr. Jim Guffie will officiate. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Powers, 86, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
He was born March 7, 1913, in Sikeston, son of Samuel F. and Leona Ferguson Powers. He and Nora Gestring were married Sept. 6, 1934, in Cape Girardeau.
Powers was a 1931 graduate of Chaffee High School and a member of its football team.
He was assistant foreman at International Shoe Co. 28 years, retiring in 1970. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sikeston, and life member and former commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 16 in Cape Girardeau.
Powers served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two half sisters, Alfreda Mansker of Sheboygan, Wis., and Nora Young of Advance.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
