Harry was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was active in helping build the church fellowship hall and was a former Sunday school teacher at Christian Mission Church in Benton, Missouri. He was a former Royal Rangers Commander for many years and, during that time, two of his Royal Ranger students became ministers, and Harry was very proud of that.

On June 14, 2008, he married Cathy Smith-Trost in Benton. She survives of the home.
