JACKSON -- Harriett Grace Abbott, 77, of Woodland, Calif., formerly of Jackson, died Friday, Oct. 13, 1995, at the home of her daughter in Woodland.
She was born Dec. 26, 1917, at Jackson, daughter of Adolph E. and Grace Vinyard Kies. She lived in Jackson, attended Jackson Public Schools and Southeast Missouri State University. She then attended Miss Hickey's Secretarial School in St. Louis.
Prior to her marriage, she was employed in the commercial department of the Southeast Missouri Telephone Co. in Cape Girardeau.
On Dec. 12, 1942, she married Fred H. Abbott Jr. He preceded her in death Nov. 11, 1979.
She and her husband owned and operated Foster's Freeze in Woodland from 1963 to 1979. After retirement, she became an artist and traveled.
She is survived by two sons, Fred H. Abbott III of Auburn, Calif., and Bruce V. Abbott of Esparto, Calif.; two daughters, Judith Bailard and Deborah Hawke, both of Woodland; three sisters, Miriam and Virginia Kies, both of Jackson, and Sue K. Horne of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A brother preceded her in death.
The funeral service was held Oct. 18 at the First Baptist Church in Woodland, with the Revs. Jack Hamlin and Glen Schneider officiating. Burial was in Monument Hill Memorial Park in Woodland.
