VILLA RIDGE, Ill. -- Harold L. Stringer, 86, of Villa Ridge passed away at 5:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at his residence.
Harold was born Nov. 13, 1926, at Pulaski, Ill., son of the late Willie Webster Stringer and Nettie Kupfer Stringer.
Harold was a member and elder of the Pulaski Christian Church, was the oldest Pulaski County Fair Board member and served as the grand parade marshal with his wife for the 50th Pulaski County Fair parade.
Harold's employment included 22 years with the Illinois State Police as a clerk and radio dispatcher with Sub Post 13A, Cairo. He held several offices in Pulaski County, including circuit clerk for three years (appointee), and served as a deputy for the Pulaski County Sheriff's office and as general assistant administrator for four years.
Harold was a retired farmer.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; two sisters; and a son, the Rev. Rodney L. Stringer.
On Oct. 27, 1952, in Hernado, Miss., Harold married the former Shirley Harper.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Stringer of Villa Ridge; a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and CaSaundra Stringer of Villa Ridge; a brother, Billy Stringer of Everson, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home Villa Ridge, and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until service time Wednesday at the Pulaski Christian Church.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Rob Arbeiter officiating. Interment will be in the Liberty Cemetery rural Pulaski, Ill.
