ORAN, Mo, -- Harold Anton Schlitt, 89, of Oran passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, at the family home. He was born Aug. 27, 1925, in Oran, to Otto Louis and Mary Josephine Dohogne Schlitt. ORAN, Mo, -- Harold Anton Schlitt, 89, of Oran passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, at the family home.

He was born Aug. 27, 1925, in Oran, to Otto Louis and Mary Josephine Dohogne Schlitt. He married Alma L. Littlepage Sept. 11, 1948.

Harold was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and was a warrant officer for Maritime Merchant Marines.

He was a retired self-employed home improvement maintenance man. He was a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran, St. Joseph Sodality and Oran Knights of Columbus 4311.

Survivors include his wife, Alma of the home; five sons, Michael (Mary) Schlitt of Hazelwood, Missouri, David (Karen) Schlitt of Annapolis, Maryland, Glennon (Barbara) Schlitt of Des Peres, Missouri, Harold Schlitt Jr. of Creswell, Oregon, Keith Schlitt of St. Louis County; four daughters, Bernita (Forest) Hammond of Cadet, Missouri, Margaret (Don) Smith of Versailles, Missouri, Yvonne Schlitt of Oran, Nadine (Jere) Cessna of St. Peters, Missouri; three sisters, Alma Jean Gouge of Wentzville, Missouri, Mary Catherine Stoverink of St. Peters, Georgia Neal of St. Louis; 25 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, a sister, and a daughter, Claudia Sue Clarice.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran. Parish rosary will be at 4 p.m., and Knights of Columbus prayer service will be at 4:30.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Guardian Angel Church, with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop as celebrant. Burial will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery, with full military honors presented by Missouri Honor Guard.
