ADVANCE, Mo. -- Harold Dean Masters, 93, of Advance passed away Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Advance Assisted Living surrounded by family.
Harold was born Feb. 27, 1929, to Henry James and Veta Johnson Masters in Frisbee, Missouri.
He grew up in Campbell, Missouri, where at age 12 he started working to help provide for his siblings. He would tell the stories of contacting the railroad to use the railroad's ground behind their home to farm. He also spent a lot of his days picking cotton and peaches as a boy. His grandma helped him raise hogs for income as well.
At age 19, Harold started buying and selling cars. A local businessman let him sell his cars off his lot, that's where it all began. As many of you know, this continued up until around age 88.
After Harold graduated Campbell High School in 1947, he moved to Michigan for a short time to work at his uncle's gas station. In 1951, he received his diploma from Glad Tidings Temple Bible Institute in St. Louis, where he was ordained.
Soon after he met Beulah Jean Underwood Masters. She said she thought she was marrying a pastor. But, no, he started working at McDonnell Aircraft Corp. in St Louis, where he worked in "the vault," protecting classified information on aircrafts built for the government.
In 1970, Harold retired from McDonnell-Douglas and moved the family to the farm. He loved farming! Another passion was buying and selling, from cars and trucks, campers and motor homes, to tractors and farm equipment and, in his later years, houses.
He was a man of faith and wisdom. He knew the Lord and trusted in Him. Many, many times, he said the Lord had spoken to him to do certain things. He was very sensitive to His voice and His leading.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Beulah Jean Underwood Masters; grandson, Aaron Keith Masters; and three of his sisters, Henrietta Boyd, Patrica McClure and Colleen Jordon.
He is survived by his son, David Masters of Advance; daughter, Janet (Terry) Robison of Advance; three granddaughters, Amanda Robison of Advance and Sarah Robison and Rebecca (Darren) Willey, both of Jackson; great-grandson, Zane Aaron Keith Masters of Wentzville, Missouri; and sister, Joann Masters of Florida.
He was a good husband, father and grandpa. He was loved and will be missed dearly.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel with Pastor Zack Strong officiating. Burial will follow at Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.
