Harold W. Kester, 75, of Chatham, Ill., died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at his home.
He was born Jan. 17, 1924, at Friedheim, son of William and Ada Moeller Kester. He and Madeline Kayser were married in 1948.
A U.S. Army veteran, Kester served in the South Pacific for 31 months during World War II. He later worked for the Postal Service in Springfield, Ill. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, VFW Post 4763, American Legion Post 0759, NARFE, APWU, Kiwanis and a volunteer for the Memorial Medical Center escort service.
He is survived by his wife; a son, H. Wayne "Pam" Kester of New Berlin, Ill.; two brothers, Truman Kester of Rochelle, Ill., and Dale Kester of Cape Girardeau; five sisters, Charlotte Davenport of New Berlin, Bernice Krahn of Jackson, Verna Kieninger of Pocahantas, Alma Enter of New Ulm, Minn., and Ruth Abbott of San Antonio; and a grandchild.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Bisch Funeral Home West in Springfield.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The body can be viewed from 9 a.m. until the start of the service. The Rev. Glenn Strohschein will officiate, with burial in Chatham Cemetery.
