Harold W. Illers, 94, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2020, at Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born June 28, 1926, in Jackson to William A. and Mabel Rice Illers. He and Becky Schlegel were married May 1, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
Harold served in the Merchant Marines and U.S. Air Force.
He worked 43 years for Missouri Utilities Co., Union Electric and Ameren UE.
His hobbies included collecting scales and weights. He was a master woodworker and built, to scale, the Old McKendree Chapel. He also made many lamps and wooden calendars. He liked getting together with his family and loved eating.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Cape Girardeau; son, Greg (Linda) Illers of Cape Girardeau; daughter, Lisa (Tim) Kerr of Jackson; sister, Doris Hardy Eltzroth; grandchildren, Cliff Illers, Kacie (John) Kirk, Clay (Kaci) Illers, Taylor (Josh) Ly, Tucker (Aleisha) Thrower, Claire (Luke) Moll and Cianna Kerr; and great-grandchildren, Kaylin Stroud, Weston Stroud, Mila Kirk, Jaida Ly, Scout Ly and Kason Illers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don Illers; sister, Aleene Sander; and an infant sister.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
Funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park. Graveside military rites will be provided by Missouri Honors Team.
Memorial contributions may be given to Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
