Harold Glenn Ervin Sr., 84, of Midland, Texas, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at Hospice Inpatient Unit of Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland.
He was born Aug. 8, 1926, at Egypt Mills, to Cletus and Rosa Kirchhoff Ervin. He and Mae Young were married June 2, 1949, at Big Spring, Texas. She passed away Jan. 16, 2011.
Harold served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1950. He and Mae owned and operated B&B Appliance Service from 1964 until retirement. They were members of Midland Gem and Mineral Society more than 40 years, during which time Harold taught basic lapidary, wire-wrap, faceting classes, as well as volunteered and taught at Casa De Amigo. Harold also served as assistant scoutmaster of Troop 333 from 1965 to 1981 and was a vigil in the Order of the Arrow.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He liked to hunt and fish, but he especially enjoyed cooking for his family and teaching them his love of the outdoors.
Survivors include three children, Deborah Ervin-Longo and Duane Ervin of Midland, Harold "Butch" (Tobi) Ervin Jr. of Tishomingo, Okla.; a sister, Agnes Wachter of Old Appleton; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Rosa and Oswald Thomas; his father, Cletus Ervin; and a grandson, David Hill.
The Rev. Kevin Olson will officiate a memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills.
