Harold Crosno

Harold "Wink" Crosno, 84, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, where he had lived the past seven years.

One of eight children, he was born July 10, 1925, in Lilbourn, Mo., to Fred and Katherine Tope Crosno. He and Glenda Faye Schaffer were married March 25, 1955, in Angola, Ind.

He was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from July 8, 1943, to Dec. 18, 1945.

Wink joined a pipefitters union at the age of 15. He was a member of Pipefitters Local 669 in Washington, D.C., many years. He retired in 1990 after working 14 years at Noranda in New Madrid, Mo.

Loving survivors include his wife of 55 years, Glenda of Cape Girardeau; a son, Tim Crosno of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Julie (Rev. David) Stanfield of Villa Park, Ill.; five grandchildren, Amanda Crosno, Ryleigh and Camryn Hardin, Noah and Camille Stone; and a sister, Ruth Disbennett.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Visitation will be today from 5 p.m. to time of service at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Revs. Robert Medlock, Charles Lance, and David Stanfield officiating. Private burial will be at a later date at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with full military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Teen Challenge in Cape Girardeau.
