ADVANCE -- Harley Henson, 73, of Advance died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1992 at the Advance Nursing Center.
Henson was the long-time owner of the Henson Grocery Store in Advance.
He was born Jan. 4, 1919 at Buckhorn, Mo., the son of Oscar Henson and Hattie Hovis Henson.
On June 13, 1942, he married the former Josephine Hayes in Jackson. She survives.
He is also survived by one son, Gary Henson, Aiken, S.C.; one daughter, Harlena Francis, Advance; three sisters, Millie Walden, St. Louis, Opal Nance, Clarksville, Tenn., Glenda Crane, Palmyra, Mo.; and one granddaughter.
Three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Early in his career he was a timberman. He also worked for the former Goodwin Poultry Company in Jackson.
In 1943, he started working for the Kroger Company, and in 1944 he moved to Advance where worked the Kroger store there. In 1956 he bought the store and renamed it Henson Grocery.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Advance, a former Rotarian, and an avid bowler for 30 years.
Funeral service was held Saturday at McCombs Funeral Chapel in Jackson with the Rev. Raymond Epps officiating. Burial was in Russell Heights Cemetery.
