Hansel Zahner

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Hansel J. Zahner, 86, of Perryville died at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006.

He was born April 5, 1919, in Perryville, son of Howard I. and Elsie Whistler Zahner. He was retired from International Shoe and Meyer Bus Lines.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, an Army veteran, and a member of the VFW Post 4282 and American Legion 133 in Perryville.

He married Rita A. Taylor April 30, 1945. She died July 20, 1952.

Surviving are a son Ison Wayne Zahner of Sedgewickville, Mo.; a sister, Linda M. Schnoeker of Belleville, Ill., and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., today and from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville. On Tuesday an American Legion wake will be held at 6:45 p.m., a Parish wake at 7 p.m. and a VFW wake at 7:15 p.m. The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Kevin Fausz officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery with military graveside honors by the Delta Team.
