Hannah Elizabeth Languell Maddox, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, April 26, 2020, at Fountainbleau Lodge.

Hannah Elizabeth was born June 26, 1929, in Earlsboro, Oklahoma, to Teal Jacob and Jane Kennon Languell. The family soon moved to Ripley County, Missouri, where they lived until Hannah was 15, and then moved to Oran, Missouri.

She and Ralph Finley Maddox were married Aug. 13, 1950, at Oran.

She was a graduate of Oran High School. She received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southeast Missouri State University and a Master of Arts from Missouri University.

She taught elementary school for 30 years, the last of which were 24 years teaching sixth grade at Washington Elementary in Cape Girardeau.

She was a lover of her family, friends, nature, sports and flower gardening. She devoted time to Rose Hills Garden Club and the city rose garden in Capaha Park, as well as her own roses, azaleas and other flower beds.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, where she taught Sunday school to her peers for more than 30 years, and it was called "the Hannah class."

Survivors include her husband, Ralph Finley Maddox of Cape Girardeau; son, Kent Maddox of Cape Girardeau; granddaughters, Alysse Maddox of New York and Miranda Maddox of Cape Girardeau; and great-grandson, Rowan Magers of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Janette Maddox; and son, Dr. Mark Maddox.

There will be a private burial at Friends Cemetery in Oran.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to First Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau.
