SIKESTON -- Henry Frank "Hank" Switala, 85, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 1995, at Sells Rest Home in Matthews.

He was born Aug. 26, 1910, in Fairview, Ill., son of Frank and Augusta Barbee Switala. He and Mary Lee Simpson were married Oct. 16, 1942, in San Francisco, Calif., She died Oct. 16, 1991.

Switala was office manager 30 years with Fabick Equipment Co., retiring in 1975. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Eagles Aerie 3319, member and commander of Henry Meldrum American Legion Post 114.

He was an umpire and referee 32 years for baseball and basketball games in Southeast Missouri. He also played amateur baseball in the St. Louis area, and became a member of the SEMO Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 1978. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include two nephews, Charles Zayic of Ellsworth, Maine, and Ross Martin of Millstadt, Ill.

He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Church, with the Rev. Robert Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
