SCOTT CITY -- Funeral service for G.V. "Shorty" Schwepker of Cahokia, Ill., will be held at 10 a.m. today at Braun Colonial Funeral Home in Cahokia. The Revs. Mike Harrison and James Pettigrew will officiate.
Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Lightner Cemetery in Scott City.
Schwepker, 80, died Monday, Dec. 15, 1997, at his home.
He was born May 12, 1917, at Illmo, son of Tony and Emma Brenneisen Schwepker. He married the former Helen I. Vaughn.
Schwepker retired from Cotton Belt Railroad in East St. Louis, Ill., in 1982. He was a member of Jerome Lane Baptist Church, VFW Post 1699, and Emeth Lodge 1030 AF&AM, all in Cahokia. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Willis Schwepker of Cahokia; a daughter, Debbie Crews of Vandalia, Ill.; a brother, Bill Zimmerman of Scott City; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather.
